Tired of waiting for journalists to find you? Qwoted is a platform that connects experts like you with reporters actively seeking your insights for their stories.

Qwoted is one of our favorite free tools for founders who want to get quoted, featured, and mentioned in top media outlets without hiring a PR agency.

And the best part? Journalists are already on there actively looking for experts like you.

In this video by Bridget Sicsko of Visibility on Purpose, you'll learn how to use Qwoted to land media placements, build brand awareness, and boost your credibility.

What Is Qwoted?

Qwoted is a platform that connects journalists with expert sources — aka you.

Reporters post queries when they're working on a story and need commentary, quotes, or insights from someone in your space. You pitch. They feature you. Your brand gets a mention (and often a backlink) in a publication your ideal customer is already reading.

It's one of the most underused tools in the DIY PR toolkit — and we recommend it to every single client inside their Personalized PR Plan.

Step 1: Set Up Your Profile the Right Way

This is where most people rush — don't.

Your Qwoted profile is essentially your media bio. Journalists will look at it before deciding whether to feature you, so make it count.

Here's what to nail:

  • Professional headshot — not a selfie, not a logo

  • Compelling bio that clearly states who you help and how

  • Your area of expertise — be specific ("CPG founder" beats "entrepreneur")

  • Links to your website and social profiles

Think of it like your press kit in miniature. Clear, credible, clickable.

Step 2: Browse the Opportunities Tab Daily

Once your profile is live, head straight to the Opportunities tab.

This is where journalists post their active queries — and deadlines move fast.

When you're browsing:

  • Filter by topic, publication, and deadline to find the right fit

  • Read each query carefully before pitching

  • Only respond to opportunities where you genuinely have something valuable to add

Quality over quantity every time. A thoughtful pitch to the right query beats a generic pitch to ten wrong ones.

Step 3: Write a Pitch That Actually Gets Opened

This is where most founders lose the opportunity.

Do not copy and paste a generic response. Journalists can smell a template from a mile away.

Instead:

  • Address the journalist's specific question directly — lead with your answer, not your bio

  • Keep it concise — 150-200 words max

  • Lead with your most valuable insight first — hook them in the first sentence

  • Add your credentials

Your pitch is not about you. It's about giving the journalist exactly what they need to write a great story.

Step 4: Be Consistent

This is the part nobody wants to hear — but it's the truth.

One pitch won't change your business. But 2-3 pitches a week, consistently, over 90 days? That's where the momentum kicks in.

Set aside 20-30 minutes a few times a week to check Qwoted, scan the opportunities, and respond to the right ones. Build it into your routine like a non-negotiable.

The founders who get featured aren't the ones with the best product. They're the ones who keep showing up.

Free vs. Paid Plan — What You Need to Know

Qwoted's free plan gives you access to opportunities with a limited number of pitches per month.

If you're pitching consistently and finding good matches, a paid plan is worth considering — it unlocks more pitches and additional features.

The Bottom Line

Qwoted is one of the best free tools available for founders who want earned media without an agency. But like any tool — it only works if you use it consistently and strategically.

Set up your profile properly. Show up daily. Pitch with intention and have fun!

That's the formula.
