How A Brand Grows Through PR, Marketing and Press Exposure
Aug 14, 2024It's interesting to be the observer of a brand's growth journey to visibility, especially ones that are fully self-funded.
Whether you started a beauty product or skincare line beginning in your kitchen or you are a subject matter expert looking to go the book, thought-leadership, speaking, courses route—there are always a few similar steps taken along the way.
When that idea first starts, you might begin with market research. Is this idea viable? Goes to the trademark website to make sure the name isn't taken. Checks domains to purchase a website. And you likely begin by setting up all your owned digital real estate.
Socials.
Website.
Google My Business.
Emails.
Register the business.
Set up bank accounts etc.
Then you go on the journey of getting the brand visible. Likely you start by attending networking events either online or in your local community and then you might start to build on social media—constantly producing content, videos, etc to get the word out.
You begin to make some sales and maybe even hire a commission based sales team.
Then we come in. You know what you are building is fantastic, you know there is something here—but not enough people know about it.

Being invited onto the morning show to talk about a trending topic that they are an expert in.
Getting the book deal with a big publisher.
Getting their product on the shelves of big retailers.
and so much more.
The build is FANTASTIC to watch—but I know when you're in it, it can feel like a slog.
The best advice I ever received was to simply stay the course. Keep going. And keep your eye on the prize.
Some brands hit some form of "overnight success" and seem to "make it" more quickly—but let's not ever forget all the legwork that goes into that build and growth journey.
