Land Media Attention & Get Your Biz Noticed (It's Easier Than You Think!)

Apr 17, 2024

Ever feel like your business is getting lost in the crowd? We've all been there. But don’t worry because there are ingenious ways to snag media attention and get your brand the love it deserves. Here, we'll explore some creative tactics to land those coveted features and boost your exposure like nobody's business.

1. Let Your Customers Brag About You (Social Proof is Your Friend!)

People trust people, that's the bottom line. That's why showcasing the positive experiences of your customers can be a goldmine for media attention. "Testimonials and case studies act as social proof, demonstrating the real-world impact of your business," says Mike Vannelli, Creative Director of Envy Creative. Think of it like online word-of-mouth. Include these stories on your website and social media to show journalists and influencers that you're a company worth talking about.

2. Create Shareable Content (Because Going Viral is Awesome)

We all devour engaging content, and journalists are no exception! Develop content that resonates with your audience and makes them want to hit that share button like their life depends on it. “Whether it's an infographic bursting with insights, a captivating video that tells your brand story, or a thought-provoking article that challenges the status quo, viral content can naturally attract media coverage," says Vannelli.

3. Host a Rad Event (That Makes People Say "Wow!")

Ditch the boring press release. Organize a workshop, a webinar that won't put people to sleep, or even a local community event that gets everyone talking...Visibility on Purpose hosts loads of these!  "Events offer a creative pathway to media exposure and brand visibility," says content marketing expert Oren Todoros, Founder of Postbee. "They provide a platform for showcasing your brand's personality, values, and expertise in an authentic way," he adds. Don't just hold a meeting, create a happening! Todoros emphasizes that unique events with newsworthy content are especially attractive to media outlets.  Think workshop unveiling industry secrets, networking event bringing together key players, or a themed party reflecting your brand's identity. Aim to create a story that goes beyond just promoting a product or service.

4. Buddy Up With Influencers (They Have the Keys to a Wider Audience)

Influencers can be your secret weapon for media exposure. Partner with micro-influencers who have a dedicated following in your niche. "Their endorsement can lead to features in niche media outlets and broaden your exposure to a targeted audience," explains Vannelli.

For example, we got the chance to interview Ati Grinspun on our podcast, Visibility Era, where we talked about why branding isn’t just about what looks good, it’s about aligning to your core values!

5. Share Exclusive Insights (Become a Source That Journalists Crave)

Journalists are always hungry for fresh information and expert commentary.  "Provide journalists and media outlets with exclusive data or insights into your industry," advises Vannelli. "By positioning yourself as a go-to source, you'll be more likely to land media features," he adds. Think of yourself as a news source with all the juicy details everyone wants.

By thinking outside the box and creating compelling narratives, your business can capture the media's attention and gain serious exposure. Remember, the key is to provide journalists with valuable content and stories that make them say "wow," and watch your brand recognition soar!
